No cavity club

You'll be interested to know that Tyson and I accidentally left the crock pot on for three days and the house is still standing. Go team!

And, on an unrelated note, I decided it was really time to start flossing every day. Is that gross that I didn't already do it? I brush a lot, but I usually reserve flossing for the two weeks before I go to the dentist and after eating corn on the cob. However, after watching a brief portion of Dr. Oz about dental health I figured it was time to get serious about it.

I did not figure it was time to get the tongue scraper they were showing. Those things totally gross me out, hence watching only a brief portion of el oz.

Speaking of dentists, guess how long it's been since I've seen one.

Five, maybe six (!) years?

I don't even know but what I do know is that when I finally go, it ain't gonna be pretty. Especially since I just had a baby and apparently that totally kills your teeth. This is what happens when your mom doesn't make you do stuff anymore.

But do you think that since my teeth don't hurt I'm probably ok? Perhaps I haven't acquired any cavities in the last six years? I think part of the reason I don't want to go is because as far as I know, I've never had a cavity. I'll be so sad if I ruin my streak! One of my crowning moments as a child was winning not one, but two drawings in a row out of the no cavity club.

Pretty sure this made me the favorite of the Hammer kids after Austin threw up in the lobby cause he swallowed his fluoride.

Ha ha.

Anyway you guys, I'm not even sure where I'm going with this anymore. Just felt like talking I guess? And maybe I'm looking for someone else who is worse about going to the dentist than I am? Misery loves company folks, if you're out there we can go together... later.

  1. I'd never had a cavity, either, until my first pregnancy. I went in shortly after having Ty and I had TWO. Ugh. I was like a dental nazi during my second pregnancy. I was so determined to not get any more cavities that I flossed like a crazed person! It worked, though! And, p.s., I think we went to the same dentist when we were little kids. If you won the no cavities club you got a stuffed animal, right? And they took a picture of you holding it and posted it in the lobby? Pretty sure...

  3. I just went to the dentist after not going since 2004. I was terrified especially since my husband went the week before I did and found out he needed a root canal. the last time he went to the dentist was 3 years ago. Anyway...after putting it off I finally went and NO CAVITIES!!!! It is totally possible! Good Luck!

  5. Pretty sure they still liked me the most because they made the most money off of me. Plus I won because I taught them never to give me fluoride again. Win win all around!

  6. I went to the dentist once when I was about 15 and I had 10 cavities! Terrible, I know. The worst part about it was that I took really good care of my teeth...my three younger siblings had 2 maybe 3 COMBINED! Ugh, anyway, I have only had one cavity since I have been married and that includes the recent check up that I had after passing most of my calcium on to the little man.

  8. Keep talking. I love to listen! Um, yeah, go to the dentist. I never had a cavity until I was 25 years old and man, it was a whopper since I had put it off after 3 kids. Nearly a root canal job. So go. It's going to be ok. They have drugs in the dental offices these days if you need them.

  9. I'm exactly the same way with flossing. And still the only thing that motivates me to do it is fear. Fear of going being reprimanded by the dentist, having my teeth fall out from rot, and that annoying tension from corn and popcorn stuck between my teeth. I always get good feedback from the hygienist and doctor that the teeth look healthy. It's most likely because my teeth are really close together and that prevents food from getting in there, etc. Take that Dr. Oz!

  11. Honestly mari? What a lot of people do NOT know about dental health is this... It's HALF LUCK... and I'm being serious.

Let's take the average person who brushes twice a day and flosses every once in a while... depending on how hard or soft their tooth enamel is and how much bacteria is produced in their saliva (which just depends on genetics i think) mainly determines whether or not that person is going to end up with either NO CAVITIES (as many of my friends report)... or LOTS OF CAVITIES. It's pretty insane how much you can learn after years of lots of cavities... and I BRUSH TWICE A DAY AND FLOSS EEEEEEVERY NIGHT AAAAND GARGLE WITH LISTERINE! Sucks. Just be glad you've got hard teeth and awesome saliva. :)
(My hubby has never had a cavity either... and he hasn't flossed in two months or so... i know... SICK!)

  12. I had my first cavity right before I got married. Then it was about 4 years later till I saw the dentist again. This was also after I had Ben. NO CAVITIES! So no worries. I haven't ever been a big flosser either. But since I haven't been to the dentist since just after I had Ben I do floss now. I use one of those reach flosser toothbrush things. It's much easier to floss that way. Anyways- I read your other blogs, loved the crazy poop story and the undressing part (so sexy), I'd have to say all us moms have been there, that's why it's funny! And don't worry about Logan's hair... Miles had a huge bald spot and then all of his hair fell completely out becuase he got cradle cap so bad. It eventually grew into to nice thick brown hair, but until then I didn't take pics of the back of his head. It was U G L Y !

  13. Oh ya, well I need not one, but TWO root canals. I already had one when I was pregnant with Landon. Not only are they insanely painful, they cost about $1200 to fix...each!

I always felt I was pretty orally hygienic.
